Hypocrisy is the expression of agreement that is not supported by real conviction. And it is a problem for government officials the world over, our President is a hypocrite.
For the last 5 years Bush has led the crack down on terrorists the world over, he has squired away accused terrorists without trial or legal council and invaded two countries to achieve his goal. And yet somehow when it comes to Cuban terrorists he is mute.
In a little reported story an anti-Castro insurgent named Luis Posada Carriles has requested asylum in the United States. Mr. Posada Carriles has been implicated in a bombing of a Cuban Aircraft, the assassination of a Chilean dissident named Orlando Letelier right on Embassy Row in Washington and Castro himself. In other words, Mr. Posada Carriles is a terrorist. And yet the U.S. government has - so far - refused to extradite him and he remains free in the United States somewhere (most likely in the home of some wealthy Castro hater in South Florida). Carriles was an operative in the ill-fated Operation Condor program that terrorized left-wing dissidents during the late 1970’s with tacit support of the CIA, the same CIA, we note, that was being run by none other than George H.W. Bush. This last point may explain the current President’s reluctance to let this cat out of the bag.
We applaud the San Francisco Chroncile and the New York Times for actually raising this story in op-ed pieces because most the United States press has conveniently ignored the story.
